Recently saw a Staples ad that offered a specific discount. Clicked it, only to come to a page where it said the promotion expired. Major ad fail! I understand the amount of work involved in keeping campaigns fresh for a large company, but you’d think they’d at least set the ads to stop running when a campaign is over.

It may at times be laziest. However, in my experience it is either because the team has too few resources or because one part of the campaign belongs to another group and it is not there job to work on it.

They have enough success despite their mistakes because of the brand they are associated with.

I agree with all of your critiques, but I would be curious to see how it is working for Marmot. The jacket is behind the register form and you can see it. While it drives you nuts, you feel left with no choice but to fill out that blasted form, and whether you buy that jacket or not, a decent percentage will keep getting emails from Marmot and never unsubscribe.
